The Source of Inspiration

Where do comic artists get their ideas? Some adapt real life incidents from their family or work life, some do intense research, some just go with the flow, and some have a system. In his latest comic, Chris Hallbeck of Maximumble steps out of his regular cartoon world to answer the most common question he hears. It must be a common question, because he gave almost the same answer when he gave Neatorama an interview a couple of years ago, except for the part about the worm. He wasn't yet ready to give credit to his collaborator back then.

It makes sense to me; our modern industrial society is out to get us, we have created a world that stresses us out, that harangues and harasses us, that invades our every concious moment until we go insane.

We can't tell where it ends and we beings, it's to the point that if we try to objectify it and see it for what it is, people think we're crazy.

A quote from the director...

"The film is sort of an observation of mine on how a lot of people function in society. The creatures in Terminus don't really exist. They're in people's heads, but the people try and function like nothing's wrong. They're sort of metaphors for living with anxiety or unresolved issues and trying to ignore it rather than deal with it."
