Stuff that looks like other stuff should be an official subcategory of the sculpture genre, because artists love to fool us with their ability to create a three dimensional object that looks so realistic it's scary.
And among these look-alike artworks the most satisfying are hard sculptures made to look like soft stuff like yarn or cloth, like these soft looking glass sculptures created by Carol Milne.
They're made to look like knitting projects in progress, but if you squeeze them they'll shatter and cut your hands to ribbons, so you'd better just stare at Carol's sculptures from afar.
Carol creates her amazing sculptures using the lost-wax process of casting- first she sculpts the "yarn" out of wax, then she uses the needles to knit the wax "yarn" together and makes a mold which she uses to cast the final glass piece.
Using this same process Carol is able to create all kinds of light and fluffy looking knitted forms out of glass, her beautiful works symbolizing both innovation and illusion.
