Remember hearing the phrase "who cut the cheese?" when you were a kid? As a cheese lovin' son of a gun I used to get all excited about the prospect of some freshly cut cheese comin' my way, but then the stench would waft towards my nostrils and I'd have to pull my shirt up over my nose and mouth to keep from gagging. Thankfully, that fart-oriented expression didn't diminish my love of cheese, and yet I feel like it needs to be amended to meaning when someone with smelly feet has taken off their shoes, because no matter how rank the cheese it never really smells like a fart- it smells like stinky feet!
