NASA has had many spacesuit designs, depending on what they need to do. First, it was to protect an astronaut from the unknown. Later, we knew what space was like, but we also started doing new things, like spacewalks and traipsing around the moon (yes, we really did). Now they are working on a suit that can withstand the rigors of a trip to Mars, which must be flexible enough for an astronauts to do every kind of tasks.
