They say that cockroaches will outlive all other life forms on earth. If that’s the case, they may have a hard time figuring out the life forms they left behind during the apocalypse. Like the 21st-century teenager in his natural habitat. This is from Pie Comic by John McNamee.

A classic take on this idea is the book The Motel of the Mysteries, where future (human) archeologists carefully dig through the buried remains a typical twentieth century motel room and come to the conclusion it's the tomb of a king.

I went to the Dorothy Hodgkin memorial lecture last year.. Elspeth Garman showed a few of the sensationalist newspaper clippings with titles like "Boffins send AIDS into space!" IIRC, her research group they were trying to grow crystals of HIV in microgravity in order to work out the protein structure.
