Jake uncovered a portable gaming unit one day while digging around in a particularly stinky cheese sinkhole, and since he'd always wanted a little BMO of his own he decided to take it home and see if it still worked. Gene therapy and research is very important and powerful, but if you perturb a complex system of any kind (in this case, the genome) you WILL ALWAYS get unexpected and possibly terrible results.
