Switching Gears

These cool switchplates are by Green Tree Jewelry. The whimsical designs are made of wooden pieces laser cut to resemble gears and other machine parts. The maker is based in San Diego. I own a pair of their earrings, so I can attest to the wood being cut precisely and finished smoothly.

Peruse the company's wares at their website and Etsy site, and follow them on social media at FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

They're gorgeous - and given how ugly North American light switches are, so necessary.
Why are US switches so ugly? And impractical - hard to use for kids, old people, people with their hands full - just generally weird to stick with such an old fashioned design.

My sister bought me one a year ago. They are functional, but could use some longer screws at the pivot points. As well, the screw covers are merely pushed in place and fall out unless they are glued. All in all, I do not recommend them for switch plates that are used frequently.
