The Best Couch For Small Living Quarters

This couch isn't really ugly, but it's not the best-looking sofa I've ever seen. That being said, it's pretty much the best couch you could hope to have in a small space. That's because you can pull on the arms and turn one sofa into three pieces of furniture -a small bed, a chaise lounge and an armchair.

If you don't want to have a ton of furniture taking up space but wish you could have seating when you have people over here and there, it's the ultimate solution.

For the equivalent of $2400, I could get something custom made locally in a nicer fabric.

There is also inflatable furniture that can be stored in a handbag. And the lightweight means you don't need a special frame to stash an air mattress against a wall or in a closet during the day. With a fairly thin padded cover, you wouldn't know it's inflatable.

But I'd call futons the best option. Can be very comfortable in both seating and laying positions, disassembles into pieces that'll fit in a small car, and wood (not metal!) frames are durable enough to last many years.

Having lived for many years in very small spaces, the first thing I noticed is that this concoction needs enough space lengthwise (or at least diagonally) to be able to pull the pieces out, and if you don't have enough room to do that, you don't have enough room for the pieces to BE out. I don't think the designer really knows what "small living quarters" can mean. The background in the photos is a great example: if you have that much room, your apartment is not space-challenged.
