This video is a compilation of clips that represent the history of special effects from the years 1874-2014. Pieced together by video editor Jim Casey, who set it to musical piece “Liberi Fatali” from Final Fantasy VIII, it has something to love for every film enthusiast. Via Twisted Sifter.

The great leaps that filmmakers have made in effects are impressive. At the same time, it's a little sad that young movie viewers are used to the highest quality. My kids have a hard time suspending their disbelief long enough to really enjoy older movies for what they are.

It flips through them all entirely too fast. But I guess it's tailored to the ADD generations.
