The Human Temple

Artist Trina Merry created this image of a temple not only with paint and photography, but with people. You see one person sitting in the temple, but the temple itself is made of seventeen circus performers and dancers wearing body paint! And it’s not just an image. These folks stand in that position as a live exhibition.

“I love the double-take people do as they look at my work. MoMA has documented that most people stop and view a work of art for only seven seconds. When I create a piece live people will sit and watch us for an hour- they connect on a deeply human level to the work. I love that the internet is a free global gallery to share these images. I find fans not only take the time to count all the people but also love to share them online with their friends instantly.”

The project is to bring awareness of the the social business venture Beyond the Four Walls, which is attempting to set up internet cafes in Nepal, run by women, in order to allow them to make a living while getting on online education.

You can see the process of “building” the temple at Merry’s website, in images and a video (contains nudity). -Thanks, Trina!
