What Is It? game 320

It's once again time for our collaboration with the wonderfully entertaining What Is It? Blog. Do you know what the pictured item is? Can you make up something wonderfully wacky? That's what we're looking for: the funniest and most creative guesses. We will award t-shirts from the NeatoShop to two commenters who post the funniest or most outlandish use for this thing!

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many guesses as you'd like in separate comments. You have until Friday evening to come up with great guesses.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, see? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

See, you don't have to know the answer to win! And remember, there are more mystery items to figure out at the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update: the pictured item is is a British grenadier's match case. It carried a slow burning piece of cord used to light grenades. The What Is It? blog has a lot more about it. The answers y’all came up with were much funnier. Patrick Scott called it a “Pope Francis Supersoaker Aspergillum. Rowdy crowds get a Holy Soaking!” That’s good for a t-shirt! And kantoboy put it succinctly, it is “The Tin Man's actual wish.” Ha! -that’s a winner, too! Thanks to everyone who played along, and thanks to the What Is It? Blog.

Whistle for a steam donkey. A few toots on this whistle lets the other loggers know that they need to get out of the way while logs are being yarded up to the landing.

I believe that is my steampunk mechanical pencil, stolen - I say stolen! - from my utility belt at a party in 2009.

I've been interested in trying it as well. Upon "googling" there appears to be a poutine restaurant in Chicago, yaaay! (oh, how I love that Chi-town is such a foodie city) May have to check it out this weekend if I can strong arm the husband into cheating on his diet.

Alex: Google search says there's a truck in LA that serves poutine

Apparently, they have poutine in the US and they call it "cheese fries."

It's more popular in Quebec than the rest of Canada.

For what it's worth, I'm from Montreal and I don't like poutine.

It's from Quebec, not from Canada. We had Katimavik kids from all over Canada, and they all wanted to try Poutine because they've heard of it, but knew it was almost only in Quebec.

Had one today, discount of 28% because in January, the colder it is, the less it cost ;) (it was -28 C degrees today)

Yikes, absolutely NOT what I meant. What I meant is, don't go to British Columbia/Prince-Edward-Island thinking you'll easily find Poutine. It WILL be hard. But in Quebec, it's EVERYWHERE! Even in McDonalds.

It's from Quebec, Canada, not everywhere in Canada ;)

A bit like saying Rattle Snake meat is the national dish of USA, where it's only found in the south ;)
