Putting animals in human clothing has been a source of humor for …well, a long time. By the way, The goggles were a necessity for Bud. The Winton automobile driven by Crocker and Jackson had no windshield and the dust kicked up by the tires proved extremely irritating to Bud's eyes. All three wore goggles when the car was in motion.
