What Is It? game 277

It's once again time for our collaboration with the wonderfully entertaining What Is It? Blog. Do you know what the pictured item is? Can you guess? Or can you make up something totally wacky?

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many guesses as you'd like in separate comments. Post no URLs or weblinks, as doing so will forfeit your entry. Two winners: the first correct guess and the funniest (albeit ultimately wrong) guess will win T-shirt from the NeatoShop.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, see? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

See another picture of this item at the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update: This is still an unknown object. Rob at the What Is It? blog researched every guess and found no definitive answer. So we decided to select two winning funny answers! Pismonque said it is "an ingenious device to mechanically reproduce the sound of one hand clapping." That's good enough to win a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! And Joseph Francis said "You cast it like a fishing rod and it scratches the back of someone on the other side of the gymnasium. I forget what it's called." Unfortunately, he didn't specify a t-shirt. Check out the answers to the other mystery items of the week at the What Is It? blog.

You've all heard of the seven year itch and that the traditional 7th annivesary gift is copper. Well, this device is the perfect gift for the couple celebrating that milestone annivesary and need the spark back in their marriage.

A mechanical aspergillum that allows really lazy priests to fling holy water without those taxing arm movements. Some have also used it to slap communion wafers onto tongues. And if they're willing to rotate a hand slightly, it can even make the sign of the cross.

Clearly a primitive oral hygiene tool for young children. Usually painted bright colors, kids would mistake it for a lollipop. While they suck on it, it cleans between their teeth. No need to fight over flossing again! (phased out due to horrible metallic taste...)

I believe the tool could be used to tighten cloth or canvas webbing straps around right angle corner like on a chair or furniture frame. You press down with your left hand on the strap with the teeth and the circular cam is placed against the edge of the chair frame, by pressing the handle down with your right hand the strapping of 1 inch material is pulled very tight then it could be nailed in place.

I believe it is also related to the furniture chair industry to stretch the springs of the under support frame that is why it has a straight across set of teeth that pull the spring against a right angle frame by the above mentioned cam action.
I found a picture of a wooden modern lever spring stretcher Osborne# 28 in the UK that will pull a spring
