This is a notice of pure desperation. Imagine working on your thesis for five years and suddenly it's gone. University librarians and computer techs say it happens more than you might think. I mean what would happen if he dropped his laptop into a puddle or the harddrive decided to melt down.
This is probably for the best.... someone this stupid would probably just burn off his eyebrows if you let him within 5 feet of a chemistry set.
