Brainteaser: Haystacks

(Image credit: Flicker user Cindy Cornett Seigle)

If a farmer has 5 haystacks in one field, and 4 in the other field, how many haystacks would he have if combined them all in the center field?

Highlight below for the answer.

One. If he combines all his haystacks, they all become one big stack.

Oh Sorites paradox! How much hay actually makes a stack? How many straws can I remove before it is no longer a stack? How close can they be together before they combine? If I had 4 apples over here, and 5 apples over there and combine them- how many apples do I have? Apple sauce? And.... I think I had too much coffee today. =)
