Reasonably Dressed Superheroines

Other than distracting evildoers, skimpy outfits just don't work well in combat. So, artist Michael Lee Lunsford has taken it upon himself to create costumes for "reasonably dressed" superheroines:

Point of this: An exercise in character design, attempting to clothe the heroines nearly all the way and not making them painted-on, while still keeping the look of their original costumes in some way. Hopefully keeping them looking as iconic as the originally were. Just showing what can be done with a costume breaking outside the barrier of the norm.

NOT the point of this: some moral code I’m trying to push on you

I like that a lot better. Don't get me wrong; I like scantily clad lasses, but something about cheesecake heroines and bulletproof nudity rub me the wrong way.

I think there could be a happy medium between the cheesecake superhero look and this. The design is just kind of baggy and schleppy-looking to me (and I'm all for comfortable clothes.) I mean the pants on WW are awful (aside from the horrid color, I swear I can feel the 1960's-grade scratchy polyester from here!) And the tops? Kind of ugly. The whole look kind of reminds me of the "modesty-protecting" athletic gear designed for Muslim women -- heavy, functional, and just basically unflattering (not that they should be drool-inducing, but, no woman really loves looking frumpy.)

I like the concept, but it looks a bit timid to me. I think it's ridiculous the way some superhero women are drawn, but there is something quite intimidating about a woman fighting crime in barely anything at all. Fearless! At lease make the clothes look powerful.
