What Is It? game 249

Once again, it's time for our collaboration with the always amusing What Is It? Blog! Do you know what the object in this picture is? You can win even if you don't know!

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. Post no URLs or weblinks, as doing so will forfeit your entry. Two winners: the first correct guess and the funniest (albeit ultimately wrong) guess will each win a T-shirt from the NeatoShop.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, okay? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

Check out the What Is It? Blog for more pictures of this item. Good luck!

Update: the object in question is a machine for making rope from binder twine or other cord. You can see a video of it being used at the What Is It? blog. The first commenter who knew that was Craig Clayton, who wins a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! The funniest answer came from Alan...yes THAT Alan, who said "After 4 years, the professor built this to keep Gilligan entertained. It doesn't do much, but it kept Gilligan occupied while the rest of the castaways simply fixed the hole in the boat." This intriguing idea deserves a t-shirt, too! Thanks to everyone who played this week, and thanks to the What Is It blog, too!

This is a very early form of a pet drier. You wash your Cat and Dog at the same time and hang them by the tail and Spin them Dry .

That is what is known as the Biebernator. It turns a regular ordinary head of hair into a swooshy, noggin-thrashing, eye-shielding monstrosity of teenage excitement!!

Vintage rope maker, to make laid or twisted rope. Most commonly it would only twist 3 strands of rope together, so I'm guessing this 6 strand model was for a larger and stronger piece of rope, possibly nautical in nature.

Industrial grade 18thcentury six man "Prince Albert" piercing machine. Used in large populated areas during the height of the fashion as a way to expedite the process.

This is one part of a rope winding machine. It would twist lengths of twine together in the same direction, and then would twist those together, forming a uniformly twisted length of rope. The second missing part of this machine is a guide that would travel towards this machine and keep all the individual twists in alignment. I've actually used one of these to twist my own rope before and it's actually pretty fun!

I was thinking of a basic torture machine, but I believe this is "just" the JOKER's clothes hanger. It's OK officer, everything is in control. Just point me to the bat-signal please, I have a friend to report to.
