That sure looks like an attack class submarine. Are the Japanese even allowed to have those submarines? Any submarines?

Hehe! With the way the headline popped up on my monitor, the picture was blocked at first. So I see "Giant Floating Crane" and I'm thinking "versize waterfowl sitting in an inner tube"... :-)

Sorry folks - to my knowledge, the Saipem 7000 is the world's largest crane, with twin, 7000t lifts:

You would think Saipem would flout that fact and have better pictures of it lifting massive objects.

Why shouldn't the Japanese Self-Defense forces own submarines? Aren't they allowed to defend their nation from other peoples' armed forces?

Don't know about the stats but I saw The Bonga in action a few years back lifting the Gateshead Millenium Bridge into place.
