DIWire Bender

Alex

Remember Bender, the bending unit robot from Futurama? Meet his predecessor: The DIWire Bender.

The DIWire Bender is a rapid prototype machine that bends metal wire to produce 2D or 3D shapes.

Wire unwinds from a spool, passes through a series of wheels that straighten it, and then feeds through the bending head, which moves around in 3 dimensions to create the desired bends and curves. Vector files (e.g., Adobe Illustrator files), text files of commands (e.g., feed 50 mm, bend 90° to right…) provide DIWire’s instructions.

It’s essentially a 3D printer that describes lines, instead of volumes, in space, and it could be used for anything from prototypes to customized products.

That's cool. I don't think he thought he was alone, though. Several times it looks like he's looking and smiling and maybe gesturing at someone off-camera. Not that that makes the video any less entertaining.

Today, at Union Square in NYC, a spontaneous Michael Jackson tribute dance-off was started, and then stopped by a police man. I'm sure that ironic is not the right word, but it's interesting...

Pancake Man, I disagree. This was put up at 2:00 yesterday morning. Nobody was even thinking of MJ then.

I think it's a fun clip and a sweet tribute to the fact that every now and then each and every one of us is going to let his/her inner MJ dance
