Virgin Fathered 14 Children

36-year-old Silicon Valley computer specialist Trent Arsenault is father to 14 children, yet he's a virgin. How did he do it? Sperm donation, of course .. and now, the government is trying to stop him:

Trent Arsenault told CNN’s Anderson Cooper he has never had sex and “committed 100 percent of my sexual energy for producing sperm for childless couples to have babies. So I don't have other activity outside of that.”

The Food and Drug Administration, however, wants to put an end to Arsenault’s activity.

Through his own website, Arsenault connects with Bay Area couples looking to conceive. The website is extensive and lists his medical records, including a list of sexually transmitted diseases he has been tested for, his diet, sperm count, and personality traits.

The federal government is not happy he sells his sperm directly, but Arsenault believes he is helping couples start families.

I guess the crude phrase, "Why go next door when you can go across the hall?" isn't quite right, though I feel the tone of this joke still fits.

By distributing his sperm directly rather than through, ahem, proper channels, like a doctor's office, he may be liable for child support. Just one of those quirks of the law--so he's potentially being pretty stupid.

I think he's got a legal contract they have to sign...I think it's kind of noble that he's doing it for free, and they probably have a problem with that, but I think it's a little weird he's done so many in ONE AREA. Kinda bizarre that the children of these inseminations are going to be in the same area with 13 other brothers/sisters.

I'm not sure a contract is sufficient to get him out of liability. There are certain rights you can't sign away, depending on the circumstances. For instance, if you have sex with a woman, get her pregnant, and have her sign a "release" contract or some such that doesn't get you off the hook for your legal obligation to support the child. The state can still come after you for support all the way through the child's 18th year. I believe the same applies to this guy's sperm donations because he isn't going through the proper legal channels. IANAL, but I believe that is the case in CA.

OK, so maybe he's liable for child support. Again, it doesn't sound like he's breaking any laws or even doing anything immoral. If the Feds are going to try to stop this guy, then they should also be going after Octomom, the Duggars, women who get pregnant while collecting welfare, NBA players... where does it end?
