Brian Hart creates these really cool light painting photographs by using exposure times up to 20 minutes long. Now that's what I call bending light! These images are so detailed that I can't help but wonder what sort of reference he uses while the shutter is open.

Set your camera on the longest Shutter speed it will allow...1 minutes is a long time...experiment with it depending on how completely dark it is outside.
Then get a little LED keychain, or pretty much any LED handheld light, and pick an image to draw in the air. Click the shutter, and draw. Pretty fun for little kids to try with their parents without making any mess. :)
The alternate method I though of was that the people and chairs were there, everything was black and the light was traced around the objects while there were there.
