Over-the-Top Kids Birthday Parties

How much did you spend on your kid's last birthday party? However much it was, I bet you didn't spend $40,000.

That's right: here's a story on ABC Nightline by Andrea Canning and Alexander Waterfield about over-the-top kids' birthday parties.

There was bowling, an aerialist, even a roller coaster, and still the birthday boy slept. His name was Jojo, and he was 1.

But that didn't stop his parents, Lisa Augustine and Joe Martino, of Staten Island, N.Y., from sparing no expense on Jojo's mega-birthday bash.

Augustine, after jokingly asking for a bodyguard, specified how much: "We're like $40,000 right now."

If I were that kid, I'd be so insanely pissed off at my parents for spending so extravagantly on something I will have no recollection of later in life. Thing is, I am quite sure I'd never be able to celebrate another birthday like that again. The selfishness here just wants to manifest itself into physical pain somehow.

Thanks for the "memories", jackasses.

the only reason why they're claiming it's for the kid is because it'll be something to hang over its head when it gets older. they're really doing this for themselves, for the fame (notoriety, or however you see it). it's ridiculous, but hey, they have money; they can do with it however they want. at least they're spending it in america!

"And the economy is bad?"

When the Nigerians don't pay them what they promised they will default on that 40k party and the government will bail it out.

I don't understand the filthy rich, but it's their money to waste. That baby boy will have quite enough money for college and ferraris when he's older. And he'll probably be as vapid as Paris Hilton.
