Manhattan in Marble

Yutaka Sone, an artist originally trained in architecture, carved a nine-foot long model of Manhattan into a block of marble. To gather information for the project, he used photos, Google Earth, and a few helicopter rides over the city. If you're in New York City, you can see it at his solo show starting on September 20 at the David Zwirner gallery.

I remember when Predator and Innerspace were the only two competing in 1987. Many of us from Manhattan's R/Greenberg Associates, which was responsible for the Predator work, were in a bar glued to the TV. Presenter Sean Connery said, "And the winner is..." (this was back when they still used that phrase) And then he correceted his tense from "is" to "are." As soon as he said "are," we all assumed he was saying R, the beginning sound in the name "R/Greenberg Associates," and the place went nuts! I bet it took 10 minutes for everyone to realize Innerspace had won.
