David Bowie's Space Oddity as a Children's Book

Illustrator Andrew Kolb was listening to David Bowie's "Space Oddity" when he realized the imagery would make a great children's book. Well, you know - if your kids are ready to deal with the tragedy of an astronaut dying alone in space. The book isn't available in hard copy (yet), but you can get the PDF for free.

Wow, I always thought the song was a metaphor about heroin addiction. But I guess I was wrong this whole time.

"My mother said, to get things done, you better not mess with Major Tom"

They made a children's book....about an acid trip. That's what the song is about, an acid trip. But that aside, I don't think dying in space is a great children's book.

Elements of violence, cruelty, and abuse in Grimms' tales.

For many years children have grown up with this stuff. Does not seem to have done them too much harm.

This however is a bit more worrisome imo: An average American child will see 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on TV by age 18.

Honestly it's some great lyrics if ya think about it and all nursery ryhmes are all f'd up so just go with the flow Bowie is a great person let him and his lyrics be.
