Common Faults in Human Thought

We all tend to be forgetful once in a while or have thoughts that are counterproductive. However in psychology there are several areas of human thought that have been identified as common faults.  My favorite is The Confirmation Bias, which I already knew to be true.
The confirmation bias is the tendency to look for or interpret information in a way that confirms beliefs. Individuals reinforce their ideas and attitudes by selectively collecting evidence or retrieving biased memories.

This is where contingency theorists proffer that the contingency of one's own self-worth provides the motive for biased thinking. If one had nothing to guard against, defend, or prove with respect to one's self-worth, then they won't think prejudicially about it. It's when the self is implicated in the situation that our thinking becomes distorted around the self.

Stuff like this should be taught at school. (Together with all the other logical fallacies and the scientific method. I had to learn all this after I left school, which to me now almost seems absurd.)
