6 TV Shows You Won't Believe Saved People's Lives

Hey, wherever you pick up lifesaving information is OK with me! Would you believe a woman's life was saved by her poor performance on the British talent show The X Factor?
In 2007, 46-year-old Jacqui Gray was one of many contestants in the fourth season of The X Factor. Like most talent show contestants, she had little in the way of actual talent. After smirking throughout her entire performance, Cowell asked Gray the patronizing question, "You have a very weird sounding voice, are you aware of that?" Both he and fellow judge Sharon Osborne suggested that she see a throat specialist, saying that it sounded like "somebody else is in there".

Displaying what has to be the world's least attuned sarcasm detector, Gray decided to take the advice of the judges and see a throat specialist.

What the doctor found was quite surprising. As are the other stories in this list at Cracked. Link

There was an episode of "Benson" where he performed the Heimlich maneuver. Some 5 year old, having watched that episode, did it to her choking friend or sibling saving their lives. The stars of "Benson" honored her. If I remember the story correctly.

The list kind of counters itself by placing mythbusters in the #1 spot. Despite lots of self-admitted pseudo-science, the show does make plenty of solid safety suggestions (and demonstrations of what not to do by Adam and Tory ;))

Just pick up "The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Extreme Edition"

Problem with learning CPR from TV is when you snap the sternum and puncture the heart or lungs. I know, cause I learned CPR from St. John's Ambulance CPR course. This complication can occur performing chest-compressions as well as the Heimlich maneuver.

Here is a scene of The Simpsons I remember quite well. Throughout the entire episode Nelson keeps laughing at people and saying "Ha Ha, your epidermis is showing!". Afterward Nelson explains that the epidermis "is your hair". Epidermis not equal to Hair.
