Arthur C. Clarke's 31-Word Short Story

In 1984, science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke submitted "siseneG" to Analog magazine. Clarke's cover letter was as terse, stating "This is the only short story I've written in ten years or so. I think you'll agree that they don't come much shorter."

As a fan of old school sci-fi, I've often thought that several authors from that time were referring to themselves when writing of gods. (Asimov in particular.) For instance, this could be read as Clarke simply tossing a story he wasn't happy with and therefore the universe he had created on the pages gone.

Reminded of an other. All the names of God were compiled in a supercomputer in Tibet according to legend, and the task completed, the stars began to blink out!

I learned recently that due to a blood transfusion, Isaac Asimov sadly, died from HIV complications.

This is more in line with margin notes collected off a few manuscript pages. And in reading Clarke's offering, it is transparent his ego falsely validates the mistaken belief that all that one writes must be presented. It doesn't simply because in such a short piece every word must count.

Research conducted many years ago concluded that, generally, devotees of the sci-fi genre possessed higher IQ levels than those shunning sci-fi.

Around three decades or so ago I read the study synopsis.

Agreed then and still agree with it.

Minimize self back-slapping please.

Must maintain some decorum.

Miss Heinlein and others.

Not enough Cards around... though only a few of his works tickle my innards. Those that do make my liver quiver.
