Lazy Teen Superheroes: Fantastic Amateur Film Made for $300 - Neatorama

How much money do you think it takes to produce a superhero movie complete with nifty special effects? Millions of dollars?

Michael Ashton can show Hollywood a thing or two about budget filmmaking. He created this 13-minute short film called Lazy Teenage Superheroes ("Crime doesn't take a vacation. But we do.") for just $300.

I wish people would stop publishing this kind of misleading disinfo. The camera/sound gear and software alone involved in a production such as this is well over $1000 - and probably more toward $10,000. The only way it would be possible to produce this for $300 is if all equipment and talent were to be donated free of charge. $300 would just about cover the catering for one day of the shoot.

I totally agree. If you are considering this as an actual production, and accounted for the amount of food just the director/editor ate during the probably very long process, you'd have over $300 right there.

Cost aside, I would actually watch this on a regular basis. Maybe it will get picked up like Riese did.

I'm with Kevin on this. It's spiffy, but $300 wouldn't have covered a legally-purchased copy of the editing software, much less equipment, talent, lighting, sound, makeup, costumes, props, craft services, etc.

I'd love to see somebody make something "spectacular" with a $200 videocamera, a 5-year-old puter and freebie/public domain editing software.

Pretty sweet. If the creator was a film student, they'd probably already have access to all the kit so I'd argue that the cost was $300.

Yes I was under the impression that this was student done, their college probably had all the equipment needed. Though I agree it's still misleading to say that "Hollywood" could take a lesson from these guys... what I will say is that actors are pretty much overpaid, and hollywood (as well as washington IMHO) does need a lesson in budgeting
