Women Running from Houses

The blog Women Running from Houses is subtitled "judging books by their covers".  Not having read many Gothic romance novels, I had no idea that a woman running away from a house was such a common theme for a book cover! Spectergirl collects such novels, and while admitting that she hasn't read them all (and probably never will), she is a fan of vintage cover illustration. Link -via Metafilter

I'm glad to know that there's a group who likes "women running away from houses." I used to buy those books when I was a teenager. I guess I never got that genre out of my system. I wrote a book on Kindle called "The Prince in the Tower: A Modern Gothic Romance." My daughter, an English teacher, defined "modern gothic romance" for me. Big houses or mansions; older, worldly-wise rich guys; young, innocent women; locked rooms; hidden staircases; a bit of the paranormal thrown in. I understand that "Rebecca" (I have seen the film but never read the book) was one such novel.

I'd like to hear from women who like "women running away from houses." I read those books as a teenager, and I'm still drawn to that genre. Life may be stranger than fiction, but gothic romances are more fun.
