Banksy Does The Simpsons

(YouTube link)

Tonight's opening sequence of The Simpsons was written and directed by street artist Banksy. It may be disturbing to some viewers. -via Laughing Squid

That was hysterically awesome....but yet at the same time sad, cause there are places like that around the world, just not with the unicorn hole punch and dolphin head tape dispenser.

Apparently Banksy is already struggling for relevance. I was looking for some sharp satire regarding popular culture today. Instead there was a delivery of trite cliches. In other words, the Simpsons. I love the Simpsons, but Jay-sus that was lame, even by their standards.

Sue, I recall that scene so well. I wondered if the entire movie was going to be that depressing. No, but it turns out that first sequence was the only thing memorable (or cinematically artful) about Joe vs. the Volcano.

I watched the Simpsons last night for the first time in a long time. I think it was a mistake for them to do it. I guess it was supposed to be hip, but came off as "Let them eat cake." It didn't lend the show any relevance, but seemed like a drawn-out one-liner.

The episode itself was another dreadful reminder of why the Simpsons are no longer fresh or original.
