Lovely Art Deco Motorcycle

O. Ray Courtney was a designer from the 1930s-1950s who applied Art Deco stylistic principles to motorcycles. Pictured above is a 1936 motorcycle that he built in that style from a 1930 Henderson, carefully restored by its owner, Frank Westfall. You can view more pictures of this beauty at the link.

I don't think I've ever had such a strong case of object lust!

This is not at all unlike sketches of what I've been planning build out of fiberglass once I have space in my workshop and an old scooter as the frame...

Brilliant. Every photo is more inspiration.

Wow. That is spectacular. A few years back the Guggenheim in Las Vegas had a motorcycle exhibition, and there were some equally as stunning motorcycles.

Oh dear. Why were there so many people back then, particularly in the USA, who felt that the one thing that would improve the motorcycle would be to add bodywork like a car.

Want a car? Get a car. They do being a car so much better than a motorcycle does. On the other hand bodywork like this adds so many disadvantages to a motorcycle it's pointless.

Yes, it's very pretty as a museum or even art gallery exhibit, but a mode of transport it is not.
