What Is It? Game 146

Hello Neatoramanauts! It's time for this week's What Is It? game. Can you tell us what the function of the strange contraption above?

Place your guess in the comment section. One guess per comment, please. You can, however, enter as many as you'd like. Write no URL or web links - let others play.

Two prizes as usual: the first correct guess and the funniest yet wrong guess will win T-shirts from the NeatoShop. You must write your choice of T-shirt wth your entry, otherwise you forfeit the prize. (May we suggest the NeatoShop's lines of Science T-Shirts and Funny T-Shirts?). You have until the right answer is revealed at our partner blog.

For more clues, be sure to visit the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update 7/26/10 - the answer is: A hand held crop duster, used to apply dry chemicals including lime and insecticides to growing plants. Harley got it right first, but chose the wrong prize. Congratulations to Professor who submitted "antique hand-cranked Dust-Buster."

Vintage hand-cranked clown fogger. For the repelling of clowns of all sorts* from sad hobos and shriners to Patch Adamses and Glenn Beck-style rodeo clowns.

*Disclaimer: Effectivess of fogger on supernatural vengance-driven zombie clowns not guaranteed except on deluxe model.

Certainly a duster, but likely not for a garden. Probably used to distribute sulfur in a vineyard (note the yellow color).

It's a chaff separator/ huller. Material is placed in the second chamber, the air from the hand-cranked squirrel-cage fan is blown through it, and chaff comes out the nozzle.

actually it is a device for burning the hairs off of a dead pig, after it has been slaughtered. The machine contains burning coal or wood and the exterior chain mechanism drives a fan at the back of the machine...

Looks like a hand cranked forge for a female blacksmith. Herbs can be put in the front chamber to emit a nice fresh smell to disguise the smell of the coal fire.

Evolution XL please.

It's a steampunk sytlized giant robot's whistle that generates electicity with every whistle blow... The hand crank is only used in the case of the air expulsion valve clogging.

it's a manual device used by butchers to clean the pig before sectioning the meat. It works using the same principles as a hairdryer, though producing much higher temperatures. In the front usually there is wood put in and the device blows fire, burning the skin hairs, and cooking the outer skin layers, which are scraped off afterward.

this is a tool for the brother of annoying little sisters. just point at said sister when she gets annoying, crank the wheel and whoosh: no more annoying! this is a magic invention, so it is frowned upon by the amish, buddists, and a majority of the state of wisconsin. i want the clever/stupid t-shirt, kthxbai!

I only read the last entry so mine is probably already in them. I'll say it's a test model of the first Dust Buster. Even if it is obviously wrong. I don't wear T shirts w/o pockets. Originally due to needing a place for my cigarettes. Since quiting nearly 10 years ago I now need somewhere for my reading glasses. Soooooo in case I do win please donate to a local charity.

rawr_im_a_taco - 2 things. It's Amish and they DO use electricity. Methinks you could read up on something before you state things as facts.

(got the second part of the request down pat)

I just got one of these in Prince Edward Island Canada. It's identical. Does anyone know more about them?

For Wiliamsmith6: the same place had a husker and kernel remover.
