Calvin Minus Hobbes

It's like Garfield Minus Garfield, but with replaces the living, imaginary Hobbes of Calvin & Hobbes with the inanimate stuffed animal.

I'm not sure who is the photoshop artist responsible, so I'll withhold attribution for the moment.

This is pretty dumb. While Garfield Minus Garfield recreates the character of Jon by eliminating his feline counterpart, the stuffed animal Hobbes was always imaginary. The character of Calvin is still the same, its just that now you don't have to reason out the fact that Calvin is an imaginative child, the photoshop artist makes it obvious. This is something more lowbrow than Watterson would ever do.

I'll need to see more to know if this works. It could be brilliant or it could just be a weak copy (even though I love Calvin & Hobbes and only like Garfield).

Yes. The great thing about Garfield Minus Garfield is that the altered comics are funnier than the originals. With Calvin Minus Hobbes (and sure, this is subjective, BUT:) I think it's totally the opposite.

As a parody it's okay. Judged on its own merit it really falls flat for me.

It makes me sad to see this. I don't think Bill Watterson would welcome this with open arms, as Jim Davis did with Garfield Minus Garfield. I disapprove of neatorama giving this any "air-time."

Oh, I miss C&H.
I'm sad that someone "doesn't get it" to the extent where they think this will have the same appeal as Garfield minus Garfield.

One of them is existentialist humor.
The other is "removing the essence".

I may be wrong, but I think all these strips ARE NOT PHOTOSHOPPED. I have the original Calvin / Hobbes annuals, and occasionally there are strips where Hobbes is depicted as a real teddy bear.

In other words, these are all GENUINE Calvin/Hobbes strips!

freetobelee is right. Some of the strips had this version of Hobbes. This is Hobbes in reality. The Hobbes you're used to seeing is the one in Calvin's head.
