Butterfly Wings Mosaics

A lot of churches have stained glass windows, but the ones in this church in Ikitsuki, Japan, were made from the wings of over 30,000 butterflies.

Brendan Eagan explains:

The priest who helped build and run the parish had a passion for butterflies and his practices as a Lepidopterist allowed for this breathtaking art to be made.

Wow, the story of the Hidden Christians, and subsequent generation converting to Buddhism whilst preserving all the swag from that period is fascinating. This should be more well-known.
