What Is It? Game 130

W00t! It's time for our weekly collaboration with the always-awesome What is it? Blog. Can you guess what this strange object above is for?

Place your guess in the comment section. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. The first correct guess and the funniest albeit incorrect one will win T-shirts from the Neatorama Shop.

IMPORTANT: Please write the T-shirt design that you'd like, as well as size and color along with your guess. Visit our online store to see what you'd like. Post no URL or weblink - doing so will forfeit your entry. You have until the answer is revealed at our partner blog.

For more clues, check out the What is it? Blog. Good luck!

Update 3/6/10 - the answer is: A Japanese stirrup from the Edo Period, 1615-1868, for use by a Samurai horseman. Congratulations to Ghodamus who got it first (thanks for taking the time to write the description!) and to Splint Chesthair for this gem: "Crotch-mounted bottle opener."

Alright, I'll give this a shot...

The item in the picture, unless I'm mistaken, is a stirrup. Specifically, it's a stirrup of east Asian design (I'm thinking Japanese), meant to be used for horseback archery. The unique design lets you stand up on your toes a bit in the saddle to get a better and more stable shooting platform.

And for the shirt, let's go... Cleverly Disguised as a Responsible Adult, black, 2XL.

It’s an Icelandic chastity cup (it becomes a belt if you pull a strap through the eyelet at the top). Can double as a sturdy sled, ensuring the expeditious retreat of the damsel in distress over the snowy Icelandic slopes. Also note the floral designs, geared towards the female target group.

It's a Chinese medieval full-sole stirrup. The design was also popular in Japan with the samurai. The rider could stand in the saddle and adjust (tighten) the girth without dismounting. You sill see these today in Yabusami exhibitions.

it's an Atl-Atl (I think). Without Google, I can only say that I vaguely remember it as something like grade-school "wall-ball" or squash, where you're constantly throwing a ball against the wall, using the pictured device, and someone else catches it and throws it back. Scoring, etc. are completely lost on me.

It is a statuette of Pac-Man's ancient egyptian ancestor (note the beard. It originally held the great golden pebble of Osiris, which has since been lost to time.

I would like a grey Esc from New York, size M. Thanks

After Googling Atlatl, I see I got the name completely wrong. I do stand by my description of the game, and Googling led me to believe I was describing Jai alai or pelota. The basket like device I was thinking this is is called a Chistera/Xistera. But given a closer inspection of the game and pictured object, it seems improbable that something so heavy could ever be used to play this game. But I did learn something, so that's good.

It is clearly an anicent Ice Cream Scoop for Leaders of the civilizations. The heftyness and size of the scoop allowed for a larger and tastier scoop of ice cream only fit for a king, peasants had to get by with small meager wooden scoops that easily broke.

The Mongolian Emperor Temur Oljeytu Khan (1294-1307) had this protective helmet created for his son Chanu, who had a tendency to walk into walls and chew on his father's best horsebow. Chanu was set to inherit power from his father, but his place in the rigid Mongol hierarchy was taken by his younger brother Qayshan, who purchased it from Chanu for two oddly-shaped rocks and a kite.

It's a sturrup from a midevel Asian saddle. I love the kitchen cutlery clock, if my vote still counts. I hate how long the feeds take to get to me- I always miss out on all the cool stuff :(

It's a farming tool... attach it behind a horse and it gets dragged along the ground, creating a little trench as its pulled. The farmers can then plant crops in the trench.

Anything in XX~XXXL, thanks
