Strange books for small children

I remember my favorite books from when I was a kid, and none of them covered such wide-ranging topics as these.  See some of the strangest, funniest, and most disturbing children's books ever.

I remember reading The House That Jack Built. I loved it. This book takes that same rhyming style and turns it into a ghetto-fabulous tale of the dangers of crack, from start to finish. It begins with the exploited South American workers in the coca fields and goes all the way to the streets of the inner city.

I expected a lot from "Woher die Kinder kommen aus (where babies come from)", but they didn't show the placenta slipping out. The baby does look happy though, and slime free.

'I Wish Daddy Didn't Drink So Much: Here’s the thing though: isn’t the hardest thing for an alcoholic to do is admit that they’re an alcoholic?'

Ignorant description of an unconventional, yet probably OK book. I'm pretty sure this book would be handed out by other family members who attended Al-Anon meetings. Where was a book like this when I was a kid? Sheesh.

I remember The House That Crack Built! I think I first read it near the end of middle school, but it was available to the elementary schoolers in the adjacent school. Interesting book, especially given that my middle school was in a bad neighborhood.

When I was a baby/toddler, my parents got a book called "Being Born" by Sheila Kitzinger. It was about how a baby is formed and how it grows in the womb, and has some stunning photography. At the end there are some very graphic pictures of a vaginal delivery, which no doubt would keep it out of many school libraries.

*The photographs from the book Being Born are now in the book "A Child is Born". It has a new author, and has new information in it. From what I can see, it's not meant for children so much as YA audiences.
