The only known wild Indochinese tiger in China, photographed in 2007 at the same reserve, has not been seen since Kang's meal, the Yunnan-based newspaper Life News reported earlier this month.
The paper quoted the provincial Forestry Bureau as saying there was no evidence the tiger was the last one in China.
A local court sentenced Kang to 10 years for killing a rare animal plus two years for illegal possession of firearms, the local web portal Yunnan.cn reported. Prosecutors said Kang did not need a gun to gather clams.
Four villagers who helped Kang dismember the tiger and ate its meat were also sentenced from three to four years for "covering up and concealing criminal gains", the report said.

Your comments are very disturbing and racist. Westerners have eaten a TON of animals into extinction. Many cultures have eaten animals into extinction. It is not just a "damn idiotic asian belief."
So let's pretend to use our brains for two second. Here are the facts, the man was caught. The man was placed into jail for 10 years. Obviously, not all Asians found eating the tiger acceptable, since he was placed in jail. So, Emmiline, your statement of "jesus, asia" is an incorrect generalization.
Just because we eat processed meat from a meat farm does not make us more civilized. Also, judging by your two comments, we have a lot farther to go.

Yes, because God forbid a rich person accidentally find him/herself in a high-risk neighborhood and actually defend him/herself against a mugger with lethal force. That would be unthinkable!
We would all agree- just let the tiger eat us, after all, it is endangered! What has become of the world that some can even consider valuing their own personal welfare above an animal's! Thank God the Communists had the good sense of handing down a combined near 30 year sentence for this heinous crime. Clearly, this is much worse than rape or manslaughter.

No in such countries it is very well known what punishments will follow such crimes. And If you can't do the time- don't do the crime. Every kid knows- Listen to your parents if you don't want to get their punishments or else be prepared to suffer their ruling, howver stupid that might be. Every Chinese knows that the authorities can as well be corrupt as that it can be overly strict and harsh. So they got very lucky that the Chinese government didn't execute them for this mistake if only for international Public Relations on the part of wildlife preservation...
And like I said- If one gets strict orders not to get into confrontation with an enemy or some other danger- just don't go there if you don't want to get into trouble from either the enemy or danger OR from the authority that gave you the order not to get into trouble in the 1st place.
