Movie Stunts Done Without Stunt Doubles

Although we are used to professional fakery, not all movie stunts are done with computers, green screen, or even stuntmen. Here are thirteen movie stars, past and present, and the stories of the dangerous stunts they've done themselves.
In his breakthrough role as Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Viggo Mortensen performed all of his own stunts. Peter Jackson referred to Viggo, and two other stuntmen as “the walking wounded” due to all of the injuries they sustained while filming the trilogy. While filming a fight scene, Viggo actually had one of his teeth knocked out and had it repaired over lunch, and returned to work immediately afterward. However, his most dangerous stunts were actually performed in the movie Hidalgo, where he was to race at breakneck speeds on horseback – a stunt that the professional stuntmen would not even attempt.

Pretty cool roundup. If you've never seen Keaton's The General, update your queue immediately. The scene where he's on the cowcatcher of a moving train is cinematic, stuntastic brilliance.

I need to see Quantum of Solace again.

In The Road, there's a scene where Viggo takes an arrow to the leg. It was a practical effect. The arrow was shot along piano wire into a balsa wood block/metal plate that was strapped to his leg.

Kodi (the kid) had it even tougher. In the scene where he's getting his hair washed in the stream, he's ACTUALLY getting his hair washed in a winter stream. (Apparently, nobody thought it through.) Those tears were real.

I want to see the Road :( None of the theaters are showing it here though... SIGH
Anywho, interesting list. It's so much better when the actor actually does the stunts. Then they don' have to do the obvious stuntman film shots where the face is kind of hidden, etc.
