Appendix Ruptures a Month After Removal

Mark Wattson of Swindon, England was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix in August. He thought the doctors must have made a mistake, since his appendix had been removed in July! Nevertheless, his appendix was removed in a second surgery.
"I couldn't believe what I was hearing," Mr Wattson said. "I told these people I had my appendix out just four weeks earlier but there it was on the screen for all to see.

"I thought: 'What the hell did they slice me open for in the first place'?"

And that wasn’t the end of his troubles.
The blunder has left Mr Wattson jobless, as bosses at the shop where he worked did not believe his story and sacked him.

Wattson is considering taking legal action against the hospital. Link -via Arbroath

I don't get this "Sue everyone for everything" culture. It's all wrong. Mistakes happen. What I would do, were I him, would be press for wrongful dismissal by his employers.

I have to agree with Gail here. This wasn't a simple mistake, they just didn't take out his appendix! It's as if the surgeon had cut him open and then asked around the room what they were doing, whereupon everyone just shrugged and they stitched him back up. Not acceptable at all. What if something more serious had happened? The hospital deserves to get sued in this case.

Skipweasel: That mistake could have cost him his life.

Not getting the correct change at the lunch counter is a mistake. Failure to remove an organ that is failing and can kill you if it is not removed is negligence.

Hopefully they didn't leave any of their tools in him...

skipweasel. How can you honestly believe that? and btw, he would still be suing his ex employer. duh.

I think he should sue both. seems like a pretty open and close case to me. you can't be fired due to medical reasons. I don't think it would be to hard for him to PROVE he had surgery TWICE. haha.
kinda makes you wonder what the doctor took out the first time.

hey for all we know the guy started out with 2 apendixes. I mean people have been born with weirder things. (we don't even know what it does in the first place.)

I'm curious to know what they did the first surgery o_O
I mean, apprently they led him to believe that they actually took out his appendix. WTH happened?
I hope he does sue them. He's lucky to even be alive.

Sometimes (luckily very rarely) a very inflamed and long appendix can be stuck for a distance along the colon and the operating surgeon may remove the appendix at the point he/she thinks is the base but leave behind the true base of the appendix which is difficult to distinguish with all of the inflammation. That residual piece of appendix can get appendicitis again.
