How Long Does Bill Murray Spend in Groundhog Day?

The burning question everyone (or at least those who have seen the movie) asks: how long does Bill Murray spend trapped in a time loop in the movie Groundhog Day? Wolf Gnards took clues from the film to come up with a definitive answer of 8 years, 8 months, and 16 days. I'm glad they figured that one out. Follow the link to find out how they did it. I always asked myself that, i also wondered when he´d be frustrated enough to kill himself, altough the movie wasn´t aimed in that direction of course.

so it takes approx. 8 years to change from a asshole to someone a woman can love? phew!

I remember reading that the original plan was to have him repeating for about 10000 years. But they figured it was more around erm.. something.. gosh.. 10? I think? Or maybe longer.. *shrugs*

actually, the screenwriter said (in the commentary for the DVD) the timeline was more like thousands of years. To learn everything that each individual person in the town is doing (remember he knew the boy was going to fall out of three), plus learning piano, plus ice sculpture, plus so many other things would take a lifetime of repeated days.

The whole movie is very kabalistic in principle. Forget about doing the things that make only yourself happy (eating donuts, smoking, tricking women into having sex with you). Do stuff that makes other people happy and in turn, you'll be happy too.
