Live Long and Prosper in Vulcan, Alberta

(YouTube Link)

The small town of Vulcan in Alberta, Canada, has exploited its Star Trek name since the 60s. It's a pilgrimage site for nerds where the local menus offer foods from Star Trek without explaining what they are for you unenlightened souls who don't watch the shows.

Wow, here I am born and raised in Calgary. I've heard about Vulcan but never knew those idiots tied in their town name with Star Trek crap. Of course, I loathe Alberta and almost everyone in it.

Really What? Thats too bad because I'm from calgary as well and love most of the people, way to throw out a blanket statement.

Anyways, I just went to vulcan for the trekkie days last month, it was neat I even put an entry in my blog about it :]

I'm born and raised in Lethbridge, and Vulcan is the only place I've ever seen a llama-drawn cart go through a Burger Baron drive-through. I so desperately wish I took a picture of it. That town is...odd.

Vulcan...
Some years ago somewhere in the early '90's I went to my one and once only visit to a Trekkie-convention in Oss. That's a place in the south of the Netherlands.
That town went mad for one weekend, with all those fruitcakes -mostly of the male kind- walking around there, toating plastic bat'leths and phasers and oh-so-fake foreheads and ears. Some made obscure gestures and said things that made the local Bikers nearly go berserk. And then shouting for Fresh Qagh and such... When presented with live edible maggots by some vendors, I saw some of them Bravest Warriors puke....

If Vulcan is only a double mooned shadow of Oss back then, it must be pretty weird.

I also live in Calgary and love Vulcan. Alberta is cool because you have one small town where people have paper mache dinosaurs all over their lawns and another town dedicated to Star Trek.
