We Choose The Moon

How will you commemorate the 40th anniversary of man's first step on the moon? There's plenty to explore on the site We Choose The Moon now, but you'll also want to bookmark it so you can follow the events of 40 years ago recreated in real time, beginning with the launch of Apollo 11 on July 16th. Meanwhile, browse the site for information and pictures from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Link -via Metafilter

I think I'll celebrate on July 20th by having a designated driver take me and Jared to a club where they're hosting a space-themed moon party. We'll party, while our Michael Collins driver orbits the parking lot.

That day I'll open a bottle of red wine from 1969 that I bought some years ago.
I'll think of those fuzzy images I saw as a small child, and I'll sigh a few times.
And then I'll probably wonder why it takes so darn long before humans go there again.
Back then it was all part of the race between the USA and the USSR. When that race was won, it just all stopped and we never went back there.

...And by the time that bottle is empty, I'll probably have come to the conclusion that IF at all it ever happens in my lifetime, I'll be an old man before I'll see astronauts walk the surface of the moon again....

Yo! It's my birthday! When I turned four in 1969 I somehow thought they moonwalked just for me :)

God but I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid!!!!!!!!

I saw a clip from wechoosethemoon.org at http://www.newsy.com/videos/moonstruck_40_years_later and thought it looked pretty cool. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get it to work just yet because it's so flash-heavy, but hopefully I'll be able to get it to cooperate before it's all over!
