R.I.P. Socks

Socks, the White House Cat from 1993 to 2001, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Socks became Chelsea Clinton's cat in 1991 and moved from Little Rock, Arkansas to Washington with the family in 1993. He remained at the White House after Chelsea went to college, where he lived antagonistically with president Clinton's dog Buddy. When Clinton left office, Socks went to live with presidential secretary Betty Currie in Maryland. Socks, who succumbed to cancer, was approximately 18. Link -via Digg

Wait, they didn't even take Socks with them when they left the White House?! I would have fits if my parents abandoned my kitty. But 18 is a long life, enjoy that great scratching post in the sky, Socks!

I lost my kitty when she was almost 20. I got her as a kitten when I was 13. We grew up together and she saw me at my worst and at my best and never judged me - just let me pet her and rub her widdle ears. I think it's awesome Socks got to live a long life. Godspeed!

I have one of the coveted White House Easter Eggs with a Socks the cat paw print and his name. My son found it at the Easter Egg Roll. RIP Socks.
