Woman Gives Birth on Trans-Atlantic Flight

On a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Boston, a Ugandan woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl.  They were both fortunate that there were two doctors on board.  As the child was born while in Canadian airspace, she automatically became a Canadian citizen.

I wonder what would happen if a baby was born on the International Space Station? Would the child be a citizen of all the countries passed over during the mother's labour?

I don't think the child is automagically to become a Canadian citizen. Truthfully, I can't say for sure, but I do distinctly remember reading something a while back about a similar case involving a child being born in Canadian waters on a boat, and that child gained the nationality of the mother, who happened to be an American.

I believe the child will be a Ugandan, like her Mother.

Interesting that this bit of piffle is mentioned nowhere in the linked article.

Repeat that 'right of birthplace' argument often enough and people will begin to believe it is true. Pfttt.

Hmmm doctors may not be needed but I thought that airlines had rules to stop you flying when heavily pregnant. In order to prevent this kind of situation or having to divert the plane due to a medical emergency, etc.

Or simply to make the flight more pleasant! I had to get a long flight once near a screaming baby which drove me nuts, I can't imagine what it would be like sitting next to someone giving birth! :p

8 1/2 months pregnant? Sounds like she was trying to ensure the baby had US citizenship. Maybe she lied to get on the flight.
And, the article doesn't say anything about it automatically becoming Canadian - that *does* sound like BS.
I can just imagine the experience of the other passengers - I would ask for a refund.
