Big Bird Sings At Jim Henson's Funeral

(YouTube - Link)

There are few things in the World that make me cry and this has to be one of them. When the great Jim Henson passed away suddenly on May 16, 1990 the World lost a great artist and character (Jim voiced Kermit the Frog). I remember like it was yesterday when I was six years old and heard on the news that Jim (and Kermit) passed away. It felt like a ton of bricks fell on me as a kid and I can imagine that was also felt by millions of children and adults who grew up watching Sesame Street and the Muppet movies. In this video you will see Big Bird sing "Bein Green" at the funeral of Jim Henson. And, yes, I teared up right at the end. Sorry if this makes you guys sad but I just had to pass this along to you all. via - BoingBoing

I was no kid when it happened, I was 40. It hit me like a ton of bricks pretty much as hard as my dad's death five years before him. JH was an important part of my life as a mom and as someone who once thought she could be a puppeteer. (I did not have the talent.)

Very sweet. Thanks for reminding us of such a great person who was loved by so many. It's a wonderful song for anybody who has ever felt a little different than the norm.

Jim Henson's work, especially the early stuff, showed that weird didn't have be threatening, it could also be charming...and as a card carrying oddball, I've always been grateful for that.

Oh my God, you have no idea what this means to me. You see, I had my small part in this. My uncle did the arrangement for the piano, and he needed a copy of the song to do that, and I was the youngest one in the family, so he called me up to see if I had it lying around. I didn't, but I went to Toys R Us and bought a tape of Sesame Street songs that had it. Sigh. I'd always wanted to hear the finished product and I never did until just now. Thank you so much.
