Free Tibet Flag ... Made in China!

Oh the irony! Thousands of the Snow Lion Flag or the "Free Tibet" flags turned out to be ... made in China!

Police in southern China have discovered a factory manufacturing Free Tibet flags, media reports say. The factory in Guangdong had been completing overseas orders for the flag of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Workers said they thought they were just making colourful flags and did not realise their meaning. But then some of them saw TV images of protesters holding the emblem and they alerted the authorities, according to Hong Kong's Ming Pao newspaper.

am not surprised, maybe in the future the Tibetan rebels will be fighting with the chinese using chinese made weapons.

Just like the Russian in Afghanistan and America in Iraq

@Steohawk, well 1/5 of world population will surely upset. And I bet the other 1/5 world population of muslim heritage will upset too to see the only country in the world that can stand up to western imperialism collapse. That make 2/5 of world population. Now, you don't have to be a mathematician, but that number sure is significant.

You assume, Ijo-Ijo, that all Chinese people would be upset that the government was overthrown? What about the people who try to practice free religion or political dissent and spend years in prison?
I don't think Steohawk is alluding to a collapse of China - maybe just a move to democracy. That would certainly be a step in the right direction in my opinion.

how many factory workers disappeared? well, if you believe the lie in western media, probably 2 billion. But we all know that is just a lie like when those media said that all Iraqis and Afghanis waving flags welcoming the imperialist invasion.

@aj

umm... I doubt China will collapse before his neighbor to the northwest that can't feed its zillion population and growing.

One would think with all the Tibetan prayer flags flying around, the Tibetans would have some kind of textile manufacturing facility.

Apparently not.

I'm not really surprised that people here in the Western world have no idea those "freedom" flags are being made in Chinese factories. And do any of these "freedom" loving American's and other westerners know just how much these factories earn in a year? I'll bet not. Let the westerns do what they do best, scream about injustices without bothering to actually arm themselves with facts.

It is very funny. The Dalai Lama is right, Tibet can't go independent.

You guys should go for a free tibet parade without having anything Chinese on you. That would be the biggest bare ass parade in history. Maybe you can show some white meat in exchange for donations so that more flags can be ordered from China.

I am a full Chinese, I was borned in China, I studied in China until 12, I go to China every summer for few months to visit my old friends and families

And Yes, I can assure you, for you couch politicians and fake activists, 99.9% of the Chinese in China support their government. Majority of the overseas Chinese support their home government. At least 50% of the Taiwanese are at least neutral with the mainland government.

Those who claim China is still an evil government. STOP living in the Cold War, that's so last century. Leave your internetz for a month and take a vacation to China, and see it for yourself before you cite from anti-Chinese news sources as your Bibles.

Oh yes, if you claim you're open minded, here's the other side of the Free Tibet Movement
Before Chinese took over:

1. Tibet was a theocracy, majority of the land was owned by monks.
2. Dalai Lama owned slaves
3. Monks practiced sodomy to young initiates.
4. Tibet was stuck in the medieval ages due to its isolation.

The Communist Government did:
1. Abolished slavery, gave citizenship to all Tibetians
2. Built airports, railroads, and gave economical reforms that lets Tibetians benefit from stupid tourists.
3. With exception that it belongs to China, Tibet is an autonomous province that is almost independent.

Why free Tibet?
1. Create a fissure within China to weaken the government, so Western countries can slow down the growth of China.
2. Dalai Lama wants his slaves back.

FT announces Free Tibet 2008 Television
Posted August 11, 2008 at 5:43 PM

Students for a Free Tibet has a new online video channel broadcasting from London throughout the worldwide uprising for Tibetan freedom during the Beijing Olympics: Free Tibet 2008 Television, or FT08.TV.

With all the Olympic actions for Tibet taking place and particularly the incredible success of the 'opening' banner action outside Beijing's 'Bird's Nest' stadium on Aug. 6th and subsequent media storm here in the UK, it took some time to get FT08.TV ready for prime time.

But with the dedicated help of lots of people, SFT's new video channel is up and running, and filled with lots of must-see on-demand content, including inspiring Tibet activist video-profiles, action reports, video-blogs, and more.

We're also airing a nightly Windhorse Report live from London with SFT leaders Tenzin Dorjee and Han Shan – a roundup of reports from Beijing and around the world during the Olympics, with breaking news about protests, call-in interviews with news-making activists, episodes of SFT-TV (the efforts of SFT's global grassroots), and info and analysis about the situation on the ground in Tibet.

There will be more and more compelling content to watch every day and we'll be improving the channel/website as we go (after all, this is but one small facet of our Olympic efforts right now). But please come check it out: surf around the many videos on the channel, or watch the stream (click on "Streaming Now" in the upper left-hand corner). Last but not least, you're invited to submit video... check out the channel for more on what we're looking for.

Please help spread the word about FT08.TV– join the facebook group, blog about it, embed the videos, spam your address book – and of course, keep watching.

And don't forget to visit SFT's Olympics Campaign website: www.FreeTibet2008.org and SFT's blog: www.blog.studentsforafreetibet.org for more news and analysis from the frontlines of the current global effort to make Olympic history for Tibet.

Note: many thanks to Nathan Dorjee, Shannon Service, Andi Mignolo, Alex Fountain, Thupten Nyima, Kala Mendoza, and many others for helping to make FT08.TV happen at this critical time.
