Map of the World, in Musical Notation

The map above, called World Beat Music, is an amazing map of the world drawn out in musical notation. It's made by James Plakovic, who also made illustrations of musical luminaries like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms in the same style.

The sound of the music appears UNDER the map, on the page linked in the post.

Btw, I laugh so hard whenever I see a world map with the biggest continent cut in half...

Shameless cartography...

John Cage famously used a map in writing a piece, combing a read through the I Ching with a phone book and then mapping the addresses that resulted onto a map overlaid onto a musical staff.

Also - not map related but still similar - a program called MetaSynth allowed import of digital images and "mapping" onto frequencies, and true to his past (captivatingly disturbing) work, Aphex Twin incorporated an image of his face into a track on the Windowlicker EP. Google it, and be prepared to shiver :)
