Bookshelf Staircase

Alex

Tom Sloan at Levitate Architects came up with a neat solution to a storage problem in this London Victorian apartment:

We created a 'secret' staircase, hidden from the main reception room, to access a new loft bedroom lit by roof lights. Limited by space, we melded the idea of a staircase with our client's desire for a library to form a 'library staircase' in which English oak stair treads and shelves are both completely lined with books.

Argh! I would LOVE to have a staircase like this. Currently all my books are either in a cardboard box or in a tiny shelf that I shares its space with the DVDs I have.

Every time I see a globe in a science-shop, antique-shop, or discount-home-store, I notice that it is either north-pole down or a slight movement from its precarious balance causes gravity to take it north-pole down. I find this aesthetically unpleasing, because I would like a globe that has its text upright in its at-rest position, and one that will stay in whatever position I leave it in.
I cannot understand why this is so.

I <3 that show. Also, unless the narrator has changed, I'm pretty sure that's the Canadian version. The U.S. version has a male narrator, and each show focuses on manufacturers located in their respective countries.
