Newborn Sumatran Rhino

(YouTube link)

A rare Sumatran rhino {wiki} was born at the Cincinnati Zoo on April 29, 2007. The Sumatran Rhinoceros is a critically endangered species: estimates are that only 300 exist in the wild. The mother is named Emi and the baby is named Harapan. They call him Harry. Wait til you hear his first sound! Link -via Arbroath

Emi has had a couple babies now. Harry is the second, I think. Emi is a good mama. I saw the first one once it was bigger and they let him out into the enclosure (which was built special for Emi and her baby, complete with swimming pool).

He definitely falls under the "so ugly he's cute" category. I live in Cincinnati, and it's so nice to have such a state-of-the-art zoo in town. I just moved five minutes away from it, so I'll have to go & pay Harapan a visit!
