A Playground for Grandma

Britain’s first playground for people over age 60 has opened in Manchester. The specially-designed equipment provides not only fun, but movement and exercise to benefit the elderly.
Residents' association chairman Joan FitzGerald said: "When we tested it all the people we took in were over 70 and I have never heard so much laughing. I believe you are never too old to play and this also helps keep you fit."

The playground is next to a children’s playground, so children can watch their grandparents having fun. Link -via Unique Daily

What a nifty idea. Let's start having adult playgrounds, too. I love playing on swings, but it's weird to do so when there's kiddies around and you have none yourself. On the other hand, swinging at night on an empty playground is rather enjoyable. No waiting. :)

Yeah, I tried that once with my wife when we were on a walk at night. Some cop pulled up and just sat there watching us...I guess he thought we might be about to break something or make out or who knows what.

I've often thought we should allow everyone to use playgrounds instead of telling kids they're "Too old". I know sometimes teenagers will behave badly and not share etc, but simply banning them isn't really a sensible way to proceed.

In Telford we have a very large "Town Park" which has a huge play area which supposedly has age ratings for the various sectors. However, I've noticed that unless they're causing a nuisance, almost anyone of any age is tolerated by the staff. It works, too. Lots of fun is had by all with very little hassle.

The problem with adults playing on most playground equipment is the size. I'll never forget the time I was trying to show my two-year-old how to use a slide. I sat down at the top, really to slide down and... I couldn't move because my butt was wedged in tightly. The neighbors had a field day with that.

I miss being able to play on the playground. Now, if you're older than 10, and not with someone 10 or under, you're loitering and/or a pedaphile.
It's nice to relax and swing on the swings sometimes. Everyone needs playtime.

this kind of stuff exists in China for YEARS.
It's not designed for playing nor fun, but for exercises, keeping seniors in good condition.

I've tried those, it makes you move just like in a fitness club :D
